It’s an honor we earned with decades of hard work, consistent excellence and a mindset of putting our customers first. And this is not a one and done designation — Preferred Converters must earn that status every year!

What is a 3M Preferred Converter?
3M calls its Preferred Converters an “elite subset” within the hundreds of converters that sell and convert 3M tapes. What does it take to get into that group? Requirements for consideration include company size, longevity, growth and history. 3M wants to partner with companies that have a great track record that stands the test of time. More standards 3M expects of its converters:
- Excellence: For 3M to award this designation, a company can’t just talk a good game. It has to deliver excellence and quality, time and time again, for the long haul.
- A Reputation for Results: The end product must exceed expectations, period. But it’s not just about that.
- Product Expertise: 3M is the leader in the tape marketplace, and they expect Preferred Converters to be the source of knowledge about their products out in the field. We need to know their tapes inside and out, and use that knowledge to help customers choose the right 3M tape for their application.
- Partnering with Customers: As a 3M Preferred Converter, we are expected to think outside the box and get creative to help our customers find the right solution for their unique needs. We don’t dole out cookie-cutter solutions. We create a product that’s exactly right for your application.

Converting Capabilities
For nearly half a century, Pro Tapes has been a global leader in the manufacturing and marketing of premium pressure sensitive adhesives. As the single largest converter in the US today, we pride ourselves on providing our customers with the most technologically advanced converting, finishing and packaging solutions available.
Here are some of the core converting capabilities we offer:
- Wide Web Slitting. Slitting directly from master or jumbo rolls using a wide web slitter is the most cost-effective slitting method. Pro Tapes has 11 wide web slitting units of which six are fully automated. Wide Web Slitting
- Narrow Web Slitting Services. When volume doesn’t warrant wide web slitting, Pro Tapes has the ability to economically process short runs on our narrow web slitters. Narrow Web Slitting
- Lathe Slitting. Lathe slitting is a much needed capability for odd slitting opportunities (narrow widths or multiple widths within a web) and small volumes. Lathe Slitting
- Flexo Printing. Pro Tapescan print up to three colors (fourth color is the color of the substrate) and die-cut in one pass. Flexo Printing
- Flatbed Die-Cutting. A flatbed die-cutting press is a hydraulically operated machine which uses a steel rule die to punch out die cut parts. Flatbed die-cutting allows for less expensive tooling and has the ability to slit much thicker substrates with less waste. Flatbed Die-Cutting
- Rotary Die Cutting Services. A rotary die-cutter can cut sheets or webs into smaller parts, shapes or perforations. Rotary die-cutting allows for higher production rates, greater precision, and the ability to perform multiple functions (printing, perforating and laminating.) Rotary Die-Cutting
